Promising Cancer Treatment Technology by Startup New Phase

Estimated read time 2 min read

An Israeli startup, New Phase, had launched a platform “Sarah nanotechnology system” to treat cancer patients. Their therapeutic cancer treatment technology is based on hyperthermia. Cancer cells exposed to temperatures between 41°C to 45°C are generally more sensitive to heat than normal cells, mainly due to the complexity of the vascular architecture in solid tumors. the company has developed a new technology to develop nanoparticles that heat up to around 50 degrees Celsius, which can kill cancer cells.

Sarah Nanotechnology comprises a new type of super-paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles developed and patented by New Phase (source). These nanoparticles termed Sarah Nanoparticles (SaNPs) contain multiple cores of iron oxide embedded within a Phase Change Material (PCM), coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG). This coating ensures that the nanoparticles remain chemically and pharmacologically inert in the human body.

About The Startup

New Phase is a nanotech biotechnology startup, founded in the year 2013, which provides thermal energy-based treatment for metastatic cancer. Their sarah nanotechnology platform is able to help patient start their treatment once again by converting metastatic cancer into a chronic disease.

The company has gone through 3 rounds of VC funding where third round was of $27.5M. The company has filed around 25 patent applications (pending and granted). The lead investor who is providing funding to the startup is BIRD Foundation who aims to facilitates the collaboration between U.S. And Israeli companies.
